This course focuses on works by contemporary Native American writers and key concepts in Native American and Indigenous Studies. We will read literary texts in their historical and cultural contexts to better understand the impact of settler colonialism on Indigenous people. We will look at Native methodologies and how they challenge Western academic approaches to interpretations. The cultural productions that we will discuss represent different genres and media: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, visual arts, and film.
